Toddler & Casa Students
This may be your child’s first independent visit and this can be an anxious event for your family which in turn may be internalized by your child. On the morning of the big day be bright and cheery. Experience has shown that a quick farewell is much easier on the child than a parent who lingers at the door. To help prepare your child, consider using some the following phrases: “You will visit some children today…” and “We are taking you to visit a class and we promise to come back and pick you up”, so your departure does not become a traumatic event.
EMS has a uniform thus, dressing your child in navy and white helps to make your child feel as though they are already part of the community. Expect to say good bye between 8:45 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. and return to collect your child at 11:00 a.m. The following list is an aid to facilitate your departure; please hand the items to the person receiving your child:
- Student Profile (completed)
- Copies of previous reports from other schools or institutions
- A photocopy of your child’s health card and birth certificate
- A detailed list of any allergies or special needs
- The application fee of $150 payable, by cheque or cash
- Water bottle
- Indoor shoes
- Personal care items (diapers, wipes and change of clothes)
We prefer not to force a child to remain if s/he shows little sign of settling in the routine of the classroom. The initial visit may last from anywhere from 20 minutes up to two hours. Should your child settle comfortably, you are not expected to return until 11:00 a.m..
